I don't think it's the Jewels. Though mine is, admittedly, a lighter one. It's more why the need such an elaborate Protocol. Most people don't just develop something like that out of the blue.

And because she's approaching their topic with reserve, it takes her a moment to figure out his sudden shift in tone. That his 'tell no one' is a joke. Her eyes widen, because, really. A joke. She hadn't anticipated him being funny.
