Never mind that she's only seen a couple of them and it predates the invention of gunpowder.

"And even if we were supposed to be an army, some of the others really don't seem like the soldier type. I'd rather see them sent home than put a weapon in their hands."

It's a little harsh, but honest. Not everybody's cut out for fighting, she's seen that first hand back in ye olde medieval times, in the time period she's been summoned to and here. So it's probably for the best that they're not some attempt at an army.
