But he understands her point, in some way or other; he'd never really believed in magic as a boy, but he can understand its benefits (even if for the most part he understands the parts of it that are terrible to the core). ]

I'd assume a gift of power would come with instruction. But I suppose these scattered lessons must be it, aren't they?
