This month, we're going to roll the plotting and intro post into one spot. There is a top-level just for new players here.

The morning that comes with the new Strangers’ arrival is an ominous one. Somber mood becomes stark, horrifying reality soon enough. In the night, a coven of Black Widows sneaked into Draega and broke a young witch who had the potential to be a good, strong Queen. The Blood are reeling, shocked and stunned by this egregious attack on a child.

While the Guilds and the Ebon Council use this as an opportunity to attack Fayura for her inability to defend the city, Fayura reaches out to the Strangers and requests they help her find the coven who attacked the young girl. To do this, she sends them out into the city, where tangled webs the coven wove in the night ensnare their minds and cause them to live through dark memories and terrible visions. Characters can be trapped in the web and acting out the memories, break into the web to free someone else, or try to change the course of the memory. As always, if you would like to take a prompt in another direction, you are welcome to do so.

PLEASE BE AWARE: The prompts featuring tangled webs are laden with triggering content. Each prompt has a trigger warning beside the header so that you are aware of the content inside the prompt. Most of the triggering content is not described in detail, and in many cases is only alluded to or described in passing.

You can read the full event here. The post is currently locked for responses and will open at 8PM EST on the 18th. Take this time to talk to each other about what you’re interested in doing and accomplishing in this event.

Questions should be asked here. For this event, Queen Fayura will be available to answer questions. Some of the NPCs may utilize the Farcasters, so keep an eye on the network as well. As always, you may drive the cityfolk as you please.

Some additional information…

Fayura and the little girl’s father will be available for questions with the first prompt. The little girl who was broken is in the residence and under Allairavar’s guard with her mother. No one will be allowed to speak with her. For your OOC understanding: being broken is deeply traumatic, often results in insanity, and is a despicable mental violation considered worse than any other by the Blood. Everyone in the residence wants to give the young witch the time she needs to heal and a safe space in which to do it.

Fayura has asked the Strangers to discover the witches who attacked the young girl and the city at large. If you would like to bring a suspect before Fayura, Grejor, or Niall, you may volunteer to do so here within the next 48 hours. Anyone may volunteer to bring in a suspect. The mod team will randomly assign suspects to characters who chose to bring a suspect forward. For example, if CharA, CharB, and CharC want to bring suspects forward, the mods will take Suspect1, Suspect2, and Suspect3 and randomly assign them to each character.

After 48 hours, the mods will post a suspect list in the OOC community. Each suspect will be accompanied by a short dossier. Using this information and hints in the IC event post, characters may accuse up to three suspects of being part of the coven.

We understand that many of the prompts for this event containing triggering material. As such, players are encouraged to share information OOCly as handwaved character conversations. Please also feel free to have these discussions in-character in the network community.

For each correct accusation, the player who brought that suspect before the faction leaders will be able to assign 5 points of influence to any faction of their choice. For example, if Tony Stark brought SuspectA before Niall and SuspectA is correctly identified as a part of the Black Widow coven, Tony will be allowed to award 5 points of influence to the faction of his choice. Characters can and should pressure each other to support one faction over another. Tony will also gain 1 point of reputation with each member of the faction he awards influence to.

As a whole, the Strangers will be able to determine which faction should deal with the accused Black Widows. This will result in that faction gaining a significant amount of influence within the city—the exact amount will be determined when we update influence, but will be no more than 10 points.

After this event…

New players can assume that characters know all the information given in the info pages. Whether you handwave a conversation with random NPCs or assume that Loren answered your characters' questions, as of the end of the event all PCs have been informed of the landen Guilds, the Ebon Council, and the state of the world.

Characters may move out of the Queen's Residence and establish their homes elsewhere. Many buildings in the city are empty and in need of repairs, but no one will stop Strangers from moving in.

Any one who remains at the Queen's Residence will receive a modest stipend, enough to cover food and drink. Loren will make clear that Strangers who do not live at the residence will not be afforded this money but also that Strangers who do stay are considered part of the Queen's court in as much as actions they take will reflect back on the court.

Allairavar reminds everyone who chooses to stay at the residence that if you live with the court, you practice with the court. He expects all the Strangers who stay to be on the practice fields with everyone else at dawn. To those who are reticent, he explains that no one needs to learn how to fight only how to defend long enough for help (he seems to imply himself) to arrive.

Another month comes and goes.

This month, Strangers arrive peacefully and are expected when they arrive. Alas, the Queen's Residence is still in chaos, and there's much afoot. The Strangers have arrived just in time for a six day festival that coincides with the spring equinox and the beginning of the planting season around Draega.

You can read the full event here. The post is currently locked for responses and will open at 8PM EST on the 21st. Take this time to talk to each other about what you're interested in doing and accomplishing in this event.

Questions should be asked here. For this event, Strangers have the chance to run into all major NPCs except for Queen Fayura. As such, please use the top-levels below to hash out plans with the NPCs. You don't need to do this, however! NPCs may crash your threads just because. As always, you may drive the cityfolk as you please.

Some additional information…

The Guilds have a significantly stronger presence in the city than they have had in previous months. The landens are far more raucous and belligerent with the Blood. Should you wish for a little more conflict, you are welcome to work confrontations between landen and Blood into your threads. Bear in mind, the landens will be the instigators here.

The Blood and the Ebon Council's presence has been weakened. The Blood are quieter and wary, avoiding confrontation as much as they can. Landens are far more obvious in their use of Muters and their carrying of Breakers.

While Strangers won't be able to interact with Fayura during this event, she is out and about in the city. Strangers will find her helping decorate and actively participating in the celebrations during the first three days.

After this event…

New players can assume that characters know all the information given in the info pages. Whether you handwave a conversation with random NPCs or assume that Loren answered your characters' questions, as of the end of the event all PCs have been informed of the landen Guilds, the Ebon Council, and the state of the world.

A month has passed in the real world and in the game world, and that means it's once again time for something to go hideously wrong.

This month, Strangers arrive peacefully. They sleep through the night, and wake to a household that did not expect more of them. They have the day to grow acclimated to Draega. It's not enough time, but the Guilds and the Council don't care about anyone's comfort but their own. In the early evening, some of the Blood sabotage the power plant northwest of the city. At the same time, a group of angry landens confronts Councilwoman Vera while she's out with her family.

You can read the full event here. The post is currently locked for responses and will open at 8PM EST on the 21st. Take this time to talk to each other about what you're interested in doing and accomplishing in this event.

Questions should be asked here. Strangers are welcome to speak with Loren or Allairavar after breakfast. You may request a thread using our NPC request form. Comment to the appropriate character's top-level. For events like this, simply let us know which of your prompts you'd like the NPC to respond to. You may drive the power plant workers and cityfolk as you please.

Some additional information…

Strangers at the Queen's Residence will have noticed that more and more often, they are served porridge, simple breads, and fruit of questionable quality at breakfast. There is enough food for everyone, but it's not very tasty.

At the power plant, Master Elektric Doriah will give Strangers the support they need to get her people out. Inside, there are about 50 landen workers. Each Stranger can save up to three workers. Most of them are trapped in shields of Purple Dusk or lighter. The line managers and overseers are trapped behind Green shields. To free them, you will need to at least wear the Green or use the Breakers donated by Doriah. Anyone trapped in a shield is slowly running out of air as well as overheating. It's not a great feeling.

The mods will be reading these threads to see how many workers, line managers, and overseers are saved (don't worry about how many of each there are). This will have an impact on faction influence in the future.

Power will be restored in Draega within a day or two.

It is common knowledge that Councilwoman Vera loudly dislikes the Guilds. Strangers who have been in Draega for the past month will have heard her position over the Far-casters: if the Guilds are willing to burn the homes of their own people, then they should be willing to fix those homes without assistance of the Blood. The Guilds pursue progress for the sake of progress, polluting the land, river, and air around the city even more than it already is. She accuses the Transport and Tinker Guilds regularly of actively destroying the land, and she has suggested on multiple occasions that the research of the landen Medicos isn't something even the Blood would consider ethical.

As long as characters are in proximity to Muters, they have no access to any of their powers. They will need to rely on skills that have nothing to do with their supernatural powers. This means that Superman will not have superhuman strength or the ability to fly, and those who can naturally use magic will not be able to. Learned skills (which are those not augmented or inhibited by a Jewel) are not impacted.

Players have 10 comments (5 each) to diffuse the tensions between landens and Blood in Death of a Councilwoman before the locals become violent. You are welcome to calm people down or let them riot as you please, but the mods will be reading these threads to see if the conflict is resolved peacefully or not. This will have a definite impact on influence in the future.

How will these threads impact influence? Don't worry about that for now. Let your character do what they think is right in these situations. Influence for January will be posted next week when we change over influence jobs for the month. The results of character actions in this event will become apparent in March.

Welcome to the first plotting post of A Gentle Night.

The first event of the game will see characters arriving in Draega in the wee hours of the night—and immediately suffering an attack from the Hunter Guild. The Hunter Guild loathes the Blood, and they have decided that Queen Fayura's actions must be answered with immediate and severe violence. Meanwhile, the Queen is no where to be found and the Old Town Bazaar burns.

You can read the full event here. The post is currently locked for responses and will open at 8PM EST on the 24th. Take this time to talk to each other about what you're interested in doing and accomplishing in this event.

Questions should be asked here. As both Allairavar and Loren are out and about in this event, you may request that they engage with your character using our NPC request form. Comment to the appropriate character's top-level. For events like this, simply let us know which of your prompts you'd like the NPC to respond to. Remember that members of Fayura's First Circle appear in the event and as minor NPCs can be driven by players at-will.

This is also a good time to talk to your fellow players about the jobs and activities around Draega that will allow you to gain influence this month.

After this event…
